mill-earth mill

In this triad, I stop thinking, based on research on the origin of the idea of work. Etymologically, the word work derives from the Latin “tripalium”; name of an instrument of torture, formed by three legs and wood used against slaves and prisoners; whose meaning originates from the verb torture. What is known today by work is not established far from this origin, being closer to this logic. The wooden tripod that forms the tool is still present, but it is a symbolic tripod. The materiality disappears, but the effects permeate the social imaginary. The series Engenho - moinho - terra brings a synthesis of this thought - a transit that manifests itself in the construction where slavery; the identity and class struggle; and the power maintenance and control practices imposed, become tangible.
